The Toffee Diary
It took us quite a while to decide to get a second dog. But after having seen a litter at Sara's (Harmakhis Wisdom) where a young female made a strong impression on us in Italy in 2018, an idea was planted in our heads and hearts.
It took a while to grow and take shape. The plan was to get a female companion for our Bon Ami who would turn 10 in March 2020. We originally hoped on a puppy from Sara, but the timing did not work out and then Corona turned anything international into an impossibility.
After intense research, Birgit found Diana and her kennel Mapacha Kalles, again a breeder miles away from us (Bon Ami is from the Harz). In this case in the Eifel, next to the Nürburg Ring race track.
In contrast to the average German Ridgeback breeder who is mostly into looks and prodigious pedigree, Diana has a strong focus on healthy family dogs with a wide genetic spread in the pedigree which perfectly fits our idea of an ideal dog. A few very long phone calls (batteries only last so long) later we where convinced we are on the right path here.
Corona made everything a bit difficult. Normally we would have gone there for two days to check out the puppies. In this case we only had a day trip with 560k each way. But Diana was making excellent suggestions, so it was easy to narrow down the choice.
We where looking for a relaxed young lady to match our ultra cool master of the Om, Bon Ami.
So on May 6th 2020 we picked up Miss Orange who was quickly named Toffee as it was evident how sweet she is.
Our Mr. Cool was not amused when we brought her home. He thinks puppies are far below his dignity and left the room when the puppy showed up. But things improved quite a bit of the following weeks.
